Total Station is used in the case of detailed survey of Topography of an area. The data collected from the total station is processed to generate the 3D model, Digital elevation Model (DEM), Digital Terrain Model (DTM) and contours of the area. The instrument is largely used for Topographical surveys of areas that are inaccessible by modern surveying instruments.
